Born on August 27, 1951, in Rochester, New York, to Richard and Violet Collins Allen, Richard spent his entire life dedicated to bettering the lives of those around him. From a young age, he exhibited an innate curiosity, a love for the beauty of life, and a desire to give back to his community. His early years were spent in the vibrant city of Rochester, where he developed his lifelong passions for woodworking, music, and even restoring Victorian homes. The meticulous craftsmanship that went into his restorations spoke volumes about his creative abilities and his attention to detail, a theme that would carry through all aspects of his life.
As Richard grew older, his sense of compassion and care for others naturally led him into a career where he could have a direct impact on people’s lives. He worked as a counselor for Catholic Family Charities and the Finger Lakes Area Counseling and Recovery Agency (FLACRA), transforming countless lives through his wisdom, empathy, and guidance. Over his many years of service, Richard became a trusted confidant for those facing some of life’s most difficult challenges, offering support, solace, and practical help to individuals and families in need. His work wasn’t just a job; it was his life’s calling. His clients and colleagues alike will remember him as a beacon of hope and understanding, someone who listened without judgment and acted with kindness and compassion.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of many passions. He was deeply interested in music, often finding solace and joy in the rhythm and melody of his favorite songs. His love for the outdoors was also reflected in his unusual but fascinating hobby of rock collecting. Above all, Richard’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, always putting the needs of his family before his own. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Christina Allen, who was his rock and steadfast partner through all of life’s joys and challenges. Together, they built a family grounded in love, support, and mutual respect. Richard’s children—Alycia Allen (Glenn Hallert), Sarah Aguglia, Julia Kornbau (Jacob), and Benjamin Allen—were his pride and joy. His love for his children was unconditional, and they will forever remember him as a father who loved deeply and gave endlessly.
In addition to his children, Richard was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Hannah Burns, Miles Kornbau, Nunzio Aguglia, and Bennett Kornbau.
