Obituary, Death: Catalina Herrera, Beloved Senior at Reedy High School, Remembered for Passion and Creativity

The Reedy High School community is mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars, Catalina Herrera, who passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the age of 17. Known to many as Catalina Waked, she was a senior known for her unwavering dedication to her craft and her vibrant enthusiasm for the arts.

Catalina’s presence illuminated the stage and touched the hearts of audiences worldwide through her performances in NTPA plays such as “Mean Girls” and “Anastasia.” Her talent and creativity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of witnessing her work.

Throughout her time at NTPA, Catalina’s contributions were immeasurable. She was not only a gifted artist but also a generous and energetic soul, beloved by her classmates, friends, and mentors alike. Her infectious spirit and commitment to excellence set her apart, making her a cherished friend and student.

In honor of Catalina’s memory, North Texas Performing Arts will hold a memorial service at the Rodenbaugh Theatre on Saturday, March 2nd, at noon. During this time, loved ones will gather to celebrate Catalina’s life, share cherished memories, and find solace in each other’s company. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Akers Theatre, providing an opportunity for further reflection and support.

In lieu of flowers, Catalina’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made to North Texas Performing Arts in her name. This gesture serves as a fitting tribute to Catalina’s passion for the arts, ensuring that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of performers.

As the community mourns the loss of Catalina Herrera, may we find comfort in the memories we shared and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
