Maryland State House on lockdown due to a security threat

Late Thursday afternoon, authorities initiated a lockdown at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, directing occupants to remain indoors.

Around 5 p.m., armed officers entered the building with firearms drawn, leading to the evacuation of some individuals. The incident seemed to originate from the ground floor.

Multiple law enforcement and emergency vehicles were positioned around the State House complex. Police cars blocked every entrance around State Circle.

The governor’s office issued a statement, confirming that the Maryland State House is presently under lockdown due to a security threat.

No further details are available at this moment.

Individuals including staff members, personnel, and community members present on the premises are advised to shelter in place and comply with instructions provided by any available Capitol Police or law enforcement personnel.

The shelter-in-place directive has been expanded to include the House and Senate office buildings.

Further details are not currently available.
